  1. Looks cool. It's ironic that it's suppose to resemble an old video camera but it's made out of present day technology.

  3. This photo is very awesome and displays examples of retrospect. I really like that the making of one media object can take many others,by that i mean... ipod+cd=video camera.

  4. All creative work builds on what came before.

  5. Thanks for the comments...however: it is not respresenting a "camera" but a movie film projector.

Shay--you missed a few "devices" used to create the final sculpture. Anybody willing to fill in the blanks?

  6. iPods (a few different versions-Nano?), CDs, CD covers, headphone earmuffs, camera, film, MP3 player,

I also think that the reflection from the CDs is like film rolling in a movie film projector.

  9. Thoughtful and observant comments, my little media manglers!

Kevin Van Aelst (the creator of this 'media sculpture' is a remarkable artist (and adjunct professor at Quinnipiac University). He has an amazing eye for bringing seemingly disparate worlds together, i.e. cd cases, audio tapes, earphones, etc to make an device that resembles a film projector. His artwork is teamed up with a weekly feature in the New York Times Magazine each Sunday, in a section called, of course: "The Medium". You all should check it out, online if need be at:

    His personal website is:

See what other amazing "mash ups" he brings to his photography.
